  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Vegetable oil
  • 2 slices of white cheddar cheese
  • 4 burger buns
  • 1 large tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 2 tsp Worchestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 6–8 lettuce leaves

Instructions

Begin by preheating the oven to 350F (180C), and combine the beef, salt and pepper together in a large mixing bowl. Once these ingredients are combined together, begin to form the mixture into individual patties. Forming the patties should be done as gently as possible, this will ensure the patties are firm but not overly dense. Place the patties onto a baking tray and cook in the oven for 10–15 minutes. The patties are done when the internal temperature is 165F (73C).

Heat a large frying pan over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil. Once the oil has heated, place the cooked patties onto the pan and cook for a couple of minutes each side. Once the burgers are nearly cooked, add the cheese slices to the top of the patties and cook for a further minute. Place the cooked patties onto the buns and top with the tomato, onion, lettuce and Worcestershire sauce. To finish the burgers, melt the butter with the garlic and chilli powder before serving.
